Nigel Carter has more than 20 years experience in
the petro-chemical industry in the UK and overseas. he has general management experience
in crude oil production and pipe-line operations; in marketing, trading and supply in
international markets. He also served with the Executive Branch of the Royal Navy before
joining British Petroleum in 1970.
His work has embraced safety and environmental
issues affecting everyday operations in the oil industry and, in his consultancy work,
he has
concentrated on the implementation of environmental management best
practice, aligned with attention to emergency planning and safe practice.
Nigel is a Chartered Environmentalist
(CEnv), a Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and
Assessment (MIEMA) and a Fellow of the Energy Institute (FEI). He recently
gained a Certificate in Strategic Environmental Assessment from Oxford
Brookes University.
He chairs BSI's Greenhouse Gas
Management Committee and has recently contributed to the drafting and
development of ISO 14064, the quantification and reporting of Green House
Gas Emissions; ISO 19011, guidelines for the auditing of quality and
environmental management systems and is currently participating in the
development of ISO Guide 64, encouraging the inclusion of environmental
considerations in other international standards
He has written Auditing
the ISO 19011 Way (BSI, 2003) and, with Larraine Wilde, Environmental
Due Diligence (BSI 2005). He is a regular contributor to commercial
publications on environmental matters
